Almost Ready

“You’re immature!” shouted Donny over his shoulder as he threw open the door to his mother’s bedroom and entered. 

He flopped down beside her and pouted, waiting for her to ask him what was wrong.

“Hi, Sweetie! Just come on in! You don’t need to knock first!” she said with a smile. 

Donny did not find her facetiousness funny right then and did not stop pouting.

Donny’s mother placed a gentle hand on him and asked, “Are your big sisters getting on your nerves again?”

“Yes, I hate both of them!”

“Oh, come on, you don’t hate them. 

You follow them everywhere.

You all love each other.”

“Well, I was just in Robbie’s and Jeffiner’s room and they chased me out and called me ‘immature’!” Donny squeaked, a tear running down his rosy cheek.

“I know ‘immature’ is bad but what’s ‘mature’, anyway?”

“Well, Donny, maturity affects all of a person - body, mind, and heart.

You get taller and slimmer. 

You start shaving.

You get more emotional and sensitive,” Donny’s mother said, gently placing her finger under his chin and raising his face to look at her. 

“You get interested in fashion. 

Your breasts start to develop. 

Your relationships with boys change.

What were you doing in your sisters’ room?” she asked as if it weren’t obvious.

“Nothin’. . . Well, I was just trying on some of their clothes.”

He was actually wearing a one of his sister's bra and panties panty sets and had done a surprisingly good job with some of his sisters’ make-up. 

“Mum, I’ve already experienced all those changes - ’cept for the breasts.”

Donny’s mother peaked down the front of the teddy and grinned. “We can give those a boost!

I have something that I’ve been giving your sisters too. You know, what? 

They don’t give you credit.

I guess none of us had noticed just how mature you really were!”

She called Donny’s sisters. “Roberta! Jeffiner! and said let's go shopping.

Two slim, half-naked, girls pushed past each other through the bedroom doorway, smiling ear-to-ear.

“Girls, I’m giving you some money. I want you to make sure that Donny leaves the mall with a wardrobe and make-up that will help her with boys. I want you to let her borrow some of your things just until she can put on something new at the mall. 

She’s mature now. 

I’m giving you enough that you can each get some pretty things for yourselves as well.”

“Thanks, Mummy! Donny, hurry up! Let’s go! 

You’re almost ready!” Donny’s sisters encouraged. 

The three sisters left, talking excitedly. Robbie and Jeffiner chattered a mile a minute, giving Donny as much advice as she could take in. 

They came back home to show their finds off to their mother. 

“Turn around, Donny! Let me take a look at you! 

What good taste you have!” her mother affirmed. 

“Robbie and Jeffiner helped me with some of my decisions,” especially the hair colour and makeup said Donny. 

“Well”, said their mother, “it looks like we should have a little coming out party!”

Donny looked down at her painted toenails for a few seconds then said without looking up, “Can it please be a party with boys?”

Her mother’s and sisters’ jaws dropped. Then they laughed. 

Her sisters cheered her, “Woohoo, Donny!”

“Of course, Donny,” said their mother gently, “if that’s what you want.”

Robbie had a suggestion.

“There’s a match going on at the pitch. It should be over soon. Why don’t we put on some of the things we just bought, go down there for the last few minutes of the game and each pick a different guy and cheer for him. Donny should have no trouble getting one to come home with her now!”

Jeffiner and their mother whole-heartedly agreed.
The three sisters were truly bonded and began to share the huge bedroom at the end of the hall. 

After the party, the youngest sister wrote a thank-you note that ended, “You are the best mum and sisters ever! Love, Dawnie” – the “i” in “Dawnie” dotted with a little heart.
