Deep down, Sarah knew she was attracted to women, though she could not bring herself to admit it—not even to herself.
There was nothing wrong with being gay, but Sarah had grown up in a household where she had been taught otherwise. Those old lessons had left her frightened and ashamed of her true feelings.
Determined to change herself, she went on date after date with different men, hoping that one of them might awaken something inside her.
None ever did.
One afternoon, while wandering down a narrow back street, Sarah discovered a curious little shop she had never noticed before. In its dusty window stood a delicate glass bottle bearing a handwritten label:
TRUE Love AND DESIRE
Intrigued, Sarah entered. The elderly shopkeeper explained that the potion was extraordinarily powerful. Just one drop in another person’s drink, she claimed, would reveal the form of Sarah’s deepest desire and cause that person to fall hopelessly in Love with her.
On her next date, Sarah secretly slipped a single drop into the Man drink.
The moment he swallowed it, a shimmer of rose-coloured light surrounded him. Before Sarah’s astonished eyes, he transformed into a beautiful female version of himself, with long, flowing hair, soulful eyes, voluptuous lips and graceful curves.
Sarah’s heart fluttered like it never had before.
Convinced that something must have gone wrong, she tried the potion on another Man's's the following month. The same thing happened. She tried it again and again, but every Man was transformed into a woman perfectly suited to Sarah’s desires.
At last, she understood.
The potion had not made a mistake. It had merely revealed the truth she had spent years trying to hide: her heart did not desire a Man. It longed for the Love of another woman.
Unfortunately, Sarah had now created a new problem. Every transformed woman remained completely infatuated with her, and before long she had more admirers than she knew how to handle.
Overwhelmed but finally honest with herself, Sarah put the potion away and came out of the closet. For the first time in her life, she stopped trying to become the person her family expected her to be.
She embraced who she truly was—and began enjoying a wonderfully complicated new life surrounded by women who adored her.
