The curse that stated that anybody who disturbed the remains that they there would be forced to rebuild their civilization. 

But like a lot of people he did not believe it. 

So when he went to legally treasure hunting through the ruins and stumbled upon the grave which of course he looted. 

The curse as punishment turned him into a beautiful maiden of the ruins insuring their people's survival.
