Science officer lieutenant junior grade Karl Grissom was a little bit shocked when he rematerialized aboard the USS Saratoga to discover there had been a slight malfunction in the Transporter during the materialization program.
He was still fit and healthy but now was a female version of himself and until chief engineer Tom Mitchell could find out what had caused the malfunction he was stuck like this.
Chief medical officer Susan Richards confined him to his quarters where he spent hours exploring his new female body and by the time they had repaired the Transporter he did not want to go back to his old self and decided to stay the way he was a beautiful young woman who was now on her own mission of exploration.
