William grappled with his new identity as a woman, a transformation he vehemently resisted. Every morning, he would stare at his reflection in the mirror, determined not to accept the changes that had overtaken him. He rejected the idea of wearing women's clothing, insisting on sticking to his comfortable, familiar wardrobe. The thought of donning a dress, or even a blouse, felt foreign and suffocating. He also turned his back on makeup, dismissing the idea of enhancing his features; to him, it felt like an unwanted imposition on his sense of self.
His refusal to conform didn't stop at clothing and makeup. He brushed aside suggestions from those around him to style his hair differently, defying the feminine norms others expected him to embrace. William was unwilling to be relegated to the sidelines, invisible merely because of a gender change. He longed to assert his presence in the workplace, to be acknowledged and respected for his abilities, just as he had been before.
However, his determination to stand his ground met with heavy resistance. Instead of earning respect, it drew backlash from colleagues and management. They confined him to a secretarial pool, a move designed to silence him and diminish his role within the company. There, among his new coworkers, he felt the sting of marginalisation, forced into a position where he could only commiserate with others about their frustrations, echoing their complaints about the challenges they faced. William's struggle to be seen and heard in a world that seemed determined to overlook him was just beginning, and the path ahead was fraught with obstacles.
